When To Use Six Thinking Hats
De Bono's six thinking hats may be used when looking at different viewpoints on a certain subject/topic before deciding on which action to proceed with (Pohl, 1997). When a particular hat is called upon, the type of thinking involved with that hat is only allowed at that particular time (Pohl, 1997). For example, if the
hat was red, the student would only describe how they were feeling about something.
The Six Thinking Hats method is based
On the idea of parallel thinking
Used individually or in groups
Use any hat, as often as needed
Sequence can be pre set or evolving
Not necessary to use every hat
Time under each hat: generally, short.
